About Penacook Place

Penacook Place is an independent, not-for-profit, 160-bed Haverhill nursing home and rehabilitation facility that strives to offer the finest care and best quality of life for its residents. Our team of professionals is specially trained to meet the medical, social, psychological, and therapeutic needs of those we serve. Our dedicated caregivers are highly trained, compassionate, and help make Penacook Place a warm and welcoming facility.

With the focus squarely on its residents, Penacook Place features forward-thinking, unique programs. For example, our award-winning Tree of Dreams program turns residents’ wishes into reality. And we have a dynamic, progressive initiative to maintain a home-like setting for our residents, staff, and family members. In addition to providing rehabilitation services for our long-term residents, Penacook Place also offers a comprehensive range of therapeutic services for short-term residents expecting to return home.

Our Mission

Penacook Place, a not-for profit organization, is dedicated to providing skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and supportive services based on the following objectives:

  • To care for our residents as we would want to be cared for—the Golden Rule of Penacook Place.
  • To promote the highest possible quality of life and dignity for our residents in a clean, safe, and attractive environment.
  • To meet or exceed the expectations of our residents as well as others with whom we come in contact.
  • To be an integral, contributing part of the greater Haverhill area business, education, and cultural communities.

The Penacook Place Name

Penacook Place was established in 1969 as Union Mission Nursing Home by a group of clergy and citizens whose vision was to provide medical care for the elderly community. In 1995, the Board of Directors wanted to adopt a broader base name for the facility. By exploring Haverhill's past, they discovered that the Penacook tribe of Native Americans had been an important part of the area's history. The name acknowledges their contributions and helps to anchor the facility to its Haverhill roots.
